Disembarking from the ship, tourists set eyes on the port and the central offices of the Municipality of Paros. The town stretches from the sea to the foot of the hill, its peak dominated by the monastery of St. Anagiri. Over the last couple of years, the development of the town has been rapid, and its extension to the neighboring hills remarkable. The settlements around Parikia are still growing and all together they form a large town, which, most importantly, has lost none of its traditional splendor. The history of Parikia goes far back throughout the centuries, as the archeological finds, which are many, confirm. It seems that Parikia has forever been the center of the island, from ancient times to today. A walk around the town has plenty to offer visitors.
Beaches
Many tourists prefer Livadia, a beach close to town, which you can walk to. Others go to the various beaches that cover the whole area from Krios to St. Fokas, which you can get to by boats from the port. They run continuously until late at night. Other tourists prefer the beaches that can be found on the other side of Parikia such as Parosporos and St. Irini, which are accessible by bus - up to a certain point, and then on foot, and of course by private car. If you are in Parikia during August and you decide to have a swim at Marchelo, next to Krios, be sure to see the white Madonna lilies at the beach, which give off the sweet smell of summer.
