Lefkes

Built inland, on the island's mountains, the village of Lefkes preserves it tradition of natural and time-honored architectural beauty, untouched by time and progress.
Towards the close of the 19th century Lefkes was the center of Iria, and was extremely prosperous. Many people who lived there abandoned the village up the 70's, as they looked for work in the big city centers such as Athens, Maroussi and Melissia, where many people from Lefkes can still be found. However, during the last 10 years people have begun to return to Lefkes because of the tourism. It had proved to be an ideal place for permanent residence or a holiday destination, as life there is quiet and peaceful.
